Claude Code Projects: one conversation coordinating parallel cloud threads

Summary

Anthropic's documentation for Projects, a public beta in which one ongoing conversation coordinates a stream of related work. Claude starts a thread per task; each thread is a cloud session that runs in parallel, keeps going after you close the laptop, and can be steered from a phone. Every thread inherits the project's repositories, instructions and memory, so context is stated once instead of repeated at the start of each session.

Key Details

  • Plan gate: public beta on Pro and Max only — explicitly not available on Team or Enterprise plans yet. Rollout is gradual even on eligible accounts; there is a waitlist form
  • Overview pane is the operator surface: which threads finished, which pull requests are ready for review, and which thread sits under "Waiting on you"
  • Standing context per project: repositories, written project instructions, and project memory that a rule stated once propagates into every new thread
  • Not just code: you can upload documents or Google Drive folders instead of adding a repository, and threads deliver write-ups to the project's Library tab
  • Stated limits: threads cannot reach tools or services only your machine can reach — a local database, a device emulator, an API behind the VPN. That work stays in a local session or agent view
  • Part of a project can be handed to a routine to run on a schedule
  • Documented failure modes include context exhaustion mid-turn, the CLAUDE_CODE_MAX_TURNS turn cap, and removed environments

Why Rolf Thinks This Matters

Draft suggestion from Claude (replace or delete — this is not Rolf's view): The plan gate is the first thing to settle. If the VisiTrans accounts are Team or Enterprise, this is reading material and nothing more for now. If some are Pro/Max, the interesting boundary is where Projects stops and our worktree tooling starts: Anthropic draws the line at local-only tool reach, which is exactly the ground vt-c-using-git-worktrees and vt-c-dispatching-parallel-agents cover.
